The First Fleet arrive at Botany Bay NSW
On this day The First fleet arrived in the area Captain James Cook had named Botany Bay. There were over one thousand people on 11 ships that had journeyed from Portsmouth England, this voyage had taken roughly 8 months to complete. (Peel, M & Toomey, C, 'A history of Australia', 2011) -
Victoria is established as a colony.
