James cook was the one who went to explore new holland. -

When captain cook went off to explore he came upon new holland which was later named Australia. -
Criminal Overflow
In Great Britain it was criminal crazy there where pick pocket and thousands of people being killed because of the harsh punishments for their crimes. Also food was being stolen very regularly and a big punishment was given to those who stole food. -
War of independence
America was apart of the war of independence and once that war was over they refused to be sent any more criminals from Great Britain. -
America refuses to take prisoners from GB
When America became an independent state and stopped Britain from sending there prisoners in they had no where for the criminals to go but then they decided to go to new holland that had recently been discovered by captain cook -
Shortage of houses
Because everyone in GB was quite poor most people would live in someone else's backyard with lots of other people. -
Author Phillip
Author Phillip was the one who decided to lead the first fleet. -
First Fleet
The first fleet included 11 ships and 6 included convicts they arrived in botany bay from either the 18 or 20 of Jan 1788. -
Unspoiled country
When the first fleet arrived the aboriginals had taken care of their country for they were one with the land. -
Joining Forces
A couple of days after the British arrived they realised that botany bay was not a good place to grow crops so they eventually got help from the aboriginals to find food and water. -

Phillip wanted to be friend the natives and teach them their ways at first he caught one but soon died then he caught Bennalong and his friend but his friend soon escaped. -
Hungry Years
When the convicts arrived in Australia captain Cook had raved on about this place called botany bay it was supposed to be great for farming but that was all a lie and soon after that food was ridiculously low. -
Bennalong
Bennalong and his friend where captured by Phillip but his friend escaped leaving Bennalong to learn GB ways. -
Garden Island
Because of all the food being stolen an island called garden island was for farmers to grow their crops and not be robbed, from both aboriginals and others. -
Bennalong runs
At night Bennalong manages to escape and later that night he meets up with the euro(his group). -
Australia's first farmer
James Ruse was a very experienced farmer and was given loads of land for him to start his own farm because of the help he had provided, he is now known as Australia's first farmer. -
Lachlan Macquarie
Lachlan Macquarie was Governor of NSW and believed that the best plan for aboriginal people was for them to live like the white settlers, however the aboriginals refused. When this was going on he had been governor for at least a decade. -
