A British settlement of free settlers came to the Swan River
Two years later the British government claimed all of New
Holland. Britain named it Western Australia. Convicts were sent there for cheap labour to help the economy. -
South Australia was claimed as a free colony in 1836. It was taken from the southern part of NSW.
