Great Britain had Declearded war on Germany so Australia's Prime Minister Robert Gordon Menzies had decleared war on Germany as well. Australian troops were shiped out on this day to aid Great Britain with their fight against Germany

    The Battle of Buna–Gona was part of the New Guinea campaign in the Pacific campaign of World War II. On 16 November 1942, Australian and United States forces had attacked the main Japanese beachheads in New Guinea, at Buna, Sanananda and Gona. The Australians won this battle.

However this plan as such did not follow through when Japan surrounded the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This operation had 2 parts to it; Operation Olympic and Operation Coronet. Both plans were scheduled for 2 different times of the year and different parts of Japan.
