  • Discovery of Australia

    European exploration of Australia first began in February 1606. First man that landed in Cape York Peninsula was the Dutch navigator Willem Janszoon in 1606.
  • First Fleet of British ships

    The First Fleet of 11 ships, each one no larger than a Manly ferry, left Portsmouth in 1787 with more than 1480 men, women and children onboard. Although most were British, there were also African, American and French convicts. After three months the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay on 24 January 1788. Here the Aboriginal people, who had lived in isolation for 40,000 years, met the British.

    The Black War

    Black War was the period of violent conflict between British colonists and Aboriginal Australians in Tasmania.

  • The Gold Rush

    Gold was found by James W. Marshall. The gold Rush took place in California. It was discovered gold in California, everyone wanted this. Towns and cities were turned into ghost towns. Whole indigenous societies were attacked and pushed off their lands by the gold-seekers
  • The Eureka Stockade

    Was a rebellion in 1854. instigated by gold miners in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, who revolted against the colonial authority of the United Kingdom. The rebellion resulted in the deaths of at least 27 people
