in 1989, the Australian and Indonesian governments signed The Timor Gap Treaty. The Timor Gap Treaty was an agreement that Australia and Indonesia could start getting Oil from each others countries without competing for it. This signing first came into effect in 1991. -
The Indian Ocean Earthquake
The Indian Ocean Earthquake was in December of 2004. It was an earthquake that made catastrophic tsunamis all over Indonesia. Australia gave Indonesia $1 billion in aid from the federal government. Australia also gave Indonesia 900 Australian Defence Force soldiers for support. -
President Yudhoyono's Visit
One of the first visits from Indonesia's president to Australia was in April of 2010. In this visit, President Yudhoyono was chosen as an Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia. -
The New Colombo Plan
The New Colombo Plan involved many young Australian students being exchanged to Indonesia to do work intake until the end of 2017. This would teach young Australians about the Indonesian culture and lifestyle and encourage more multiculturalism into the Australian Way.
