Augusto Pinochet Urgate was born in the small town of Valparaiso, Chile. In his youth, he went a private school but later enlisted into a military academy in the capital: Santiago. -

Marriage
On the 30th of January 1943, Augusto Pinochet married Lucia Hiriart Rodriguez whom which they had five children: Ines Lucia, Maria Veronica, Jacqueline Marie, Augusto Osvaldo, and Marco Antonio. -
Coup D'etat
Pinochet, backed by the US government, attacked the presidential palace causing the current president: Salvador Allende to commit suicide. -
President
Pinochet assumed the role as the President of Chile. -
Economic Sucess
Due to the Chicago boys, and Pinochet's implementation of their far more successful economic policies, Chile experienced a economic boom that lasted three years. -
Political Liberalization
A small political liberalization began after the government had announced that 75% of the electorate had endorsed Pinochet and his ideas. -

Great Recession
Due to some flaws in Chile's economic polices, the country faced a severe recession lasting three years. -
New Constitution
A new constitution was created stating Augusto would serve for an 8 year term until 1989, a national referendum would then be held determining whether he would serve for another 8 years. -
National Plebiscite
A plebiscite was held determining whether Augusto would serve for another 8 years. The result was a “no” vote of 55 percent and a “yes” vote of 43 percent. -
A New President
A new president was elected by the name of Patricio Alywin. -
Arrest
While visiting London, Augusto was detained my British authorities for the torture of Chileans during his rule. -
Death
Augusto Pinochet died of a heart attack on December 3, 2006. He was not recognized as a president and many of the traditions were not performed
