Mach Bands
Mach discovered that the human eye can see bright or dark bands near boundaries of different illumination that is brighter or darker than the surrounding fields. This is usually not possible since nothing is brighter or darker than the field surrounding. This is a physiological effect since they are considered visual and perceptual illusions. It helps study the way the brain and eye move. -
Mach Principle
Mach discovered that internal forces that are discovered by the body in an uniformed motion, are actually determined by the quantity and distribution of the universe. He believed that anything could be altered by a single particle. This brought up a new way of thinking meaning that things are explained and connection to other events. Einstein named the principle Mach in 1918 -
Analysis of Sensations
Mach stated in his book that sensations are not raw experiences but more so based on how we recognize things. He interpreted that if we experience something previously, our brain creates a "memory" where a similar sensation is produced during that similar event. -
Mach Number
Mach determined that when an object moves through fluid, an aircraft, a number is equal to the velocity of the object relative to the fluid of velocity divided by the sound in that fluid. This helps with aircraft and opened a new insight on how to measure things like the sound barrier and sound waves on the human body.
