    William James Bean's Information
    William James Bean was born on May 24, 1888 in Syracuse, New York. He was the youngest of five brothers and one sister. He lived in 1335 Grape, Street, New York. He also attended Croton School which was nearby. Both his father and mother were born in Kent, England. His father George Bean worked as a blacksmith for the Delaware Railroad. He also built two houses on Grape Street. On October 16, 1895 George Bean died. After his father passed away his mother made a few trips to England.

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand, nephew of Emperor France Joseph and heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is shot to death along with his wife by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Bosnia, on this day 1914. The great Prussian statesman Otto von Bismark, the man most responsible for the uni-faction of Germany in 1871, was quoted as saying at the end of his life ¨ One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans¨ It went as he predicted.

They heard the firing and remembered that they were at war and they went back into there trenches.

At the outbreak of World War 1, the Germans bagan activity to develop chemical weapons.

    On May 7, 1915, less than a year after, World War 1 (1914-1918) erupted across Europe. A German U-boat torpedoed and sank the RMS Lusitania. British ocean liner en route from New York to Liverpool, England. Of the more than 1,900 passengers and crew members on board, more than 1,100 perished, including more than 120 Americans. Nearly two years would pass before the United States formally entered World War 1, but the sinking of the Lusitania played a significant role, against Germany.

    British Armed forces had bought most of the horses, and shipped them off Western Front. They found exotic animals, including elephants, dogs, and horses. Lizzie as she was popularly known -- was really a circus animal, trained to do tricks in front of an audience and was part of an traveling animal exhibit. But when World War 1 broke out and the lack of horses in the work force became apparent, Lizzie had to be employed as a ¨working animal¨ compelled to be a heavy labor aid.

    On trip by train in which he accomplished his mother to Galeton, Pennsylvania he met my mother.Later after many trips to Galeton to see her they decided to get married.After obtaining a marrige licensee in the country seat of Potter Country they were married, June 1917 in my mothers home.The married couple traveled by train to Syracuse,New York and set up housekeeping at 1107 Canon Street.On December 15,1917 he was inducted into the United States Army and went to Fort Hamilton, in Brooklyn.
