August Horch wrote the first chapter of Audi history when he founded the motor vehicle company known as Horch & Cie. Motorwagenwerke. Ten years later, he founded his second car manufacturing company in Zwickau: Audi Automobilwerke. -
four marks, four rings
Four interlocking rings symbolized the merger of four automakers based in the German region of Saxony: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer formed Auto Union AG, which at the time was the second largest automotive group in Germany. -
A new start in Ingolstadt
What was originally a spare parts depot for Auto Union in the former fortified town of Ingolstadt became the headquarters of Auto Union GmbH, a new company continuing the automotive tradition associated with the four-ring emblem. -
The brand is born again
The new DKW F 102 model was launched on the market. It was the brand's first car with a four-stroke engine since after the war and the beginning of a new era. The brand therefore deserved a new name: Audi, a name steeped in tradition, had been reborn. -
Merger with NSU
Volkswagenwerk AG achieved the merger between Auto Union GmbH and NSU Motorenwerke AG, headquartered in Neckarsulm. The new company was renamed Audi NSU Auto Union AG and had its registered office in Neckarsulm. -
At the forefront of technology
The wide range of Audi NSU models, covering a wide variety of engines and driving concepts, gave rise in 1971 to the need for a new advertising slogan. Since then, this slogan has effectively formed the company's mission statement: "At the cutting edge of technology".
