Discovery of the Electron
Discovered by J.J. Thomson in 1897 through the use of Cathode rays, which he used to measure the fashion that the rays bent in a magnetic field. He discovered that the mass-to-charge ratio of the cathode rays were significantly smaller than a charged hydrogen aton. -
Discovery of the Nucleus
Rutherford's Gold Foil Experiment
Discoovered by Ernest Rutherford when he fired alpha particles into a gold foil. -
Discovery of the proton
Discovered in 1911 by Ernest Rutherford -
Discovery of the Neutron
The Neutron was discovered in 1932 by English physicist James Chadwick when he developed an experiment where he fired neutron particles into a block of paraffin wax. He measured the reactions of the protons in the block of paraffin wax, and he then discovered that the mass was slightly greater than a proton.
