  • Discovery of the Electron

    Discovery of the Electron
Discovered by J.J. Thomson in 1897 through the use of Cathode rays, which he used to measure the fashion that the rays bent in a magnetic field. He discovered that the mass-to-charge ratio of the cathode rays were significantly smaller than a charged hydrogen aton.
  • Discovery of the Nucleus

    Discovery of the Nucleus
    Rutherford's Gold Foil Experiment
Discoovered by Ernest Rutherford when he fired alpha particles into a gold foil.
  • Discovery of the proton

    Discovery of the proton
Discovered in 1911 by Ernest Rutherford
  • Discovery of the Neutron

    Discovery of the Neutron
The Neutron was discovered in 1932 by English physicist James Chadwick when he developed an experiment where he fired neutron particles into a block of paraffin wax. He measured the reactions of the protons in the block of paraffin wax, and he then discovered that the mass was slightly greater than a proton.
