Tycho Brahe
He observed a new star in the constellation Cassiopeia. Brahe had his own observatory, which was funded by King Frederick, to makes observations with his own instruments. He studied planets throughout their orbit.

Johannes Kepler
He believed in the Copernican system. Kepler realized that planets don't orbit in a circle. They move in a flat-like circle, ellipses.

John Baptist Riccioli
Riccioli made measurements to calculate Earth's radius and the ratio water to land. He described sunspots. He made observations of a double star and of Saturn.

Galileo Galilei
Galileo noticed that the moon was uneven and it had a rough surface. He made a 10 power telescope. With a 30 power telescope, he noticed 3 stars by Jupiter, that appeared in a straight line.

Giovanni Cassini
Giovanni discovered Saturn's 4 moons. He discovered the Cassini division in Saturn's rings. His name is used for a space exploration, called Cassini Orbiter.

Isaac Newton
Newton designed and made a reflecting telescope. This invention proved his theory of light and color. He discovered the 3 laws of bodies in motion.

Christoph Arnold
Christoph was an amateur astronomer. He saw the great comet of 1683 before Hevelius.

Edmond Halley
He determined a method for observing transits of Venus across the sun. This helped him to determinne the distance of the Earth from the Sun. Edmond calculated the ordit of a comet.

Charles Messier
Charles discovered 13 comets. Also discovered 40 nebulae. He recorded his findings along with other astronomers findings in the Messier catalog.

Joseph-Louis Lagrange
Joseph-Louis explained the orbits of Jupiter's moons in mathmatical terms. He explained that motions of objects are affected by their gravitational attractions. There is a moon crater named after him.

William Herschel
William discovered Uranus. He cataloged 2,500 celestial objects, that are still used today. He used measurements to find out what is now known as infrared radiation.
