Louisana Purchase
- Thomas Jeferson was preisdent during the purchase from Lousiana from France
- He encouraged this westward movement because he knew the purchase of land would be important
- It was double the size of the U.S and of course Jefferson wanted to learn about this important purchase

- Widelands were suited for cattle riding

Factory and Labor Duties
- Employees worked 12-14 hour days in the factory
- Dirty and dangerous working conditions were common in most factories
- Factory machines were run by women and children
- Children worked the same as adults and got paid way less
- People lost fingers and if they couldn't work there they'd just be replaced
- They were paid 30 cents per week
- Families depended on low income to survive

Homested Act
- It was signed by Lincoln
- You had to be the head of the house hold or at least age 21
- Had to live on designated land, build a home, and make improvemnts
- The filling fee was $18
- The govn't passed this act
- Provided 160 acres of free land who lived and farmed it for five years

Buffalo Soilders
- They were orginially memebers of the 10th clavary
- Buffalo soilders had to fight for equailty and gain respect from everyone
- The Buffalo name came from the Indians because it reminded them of buffalo with thier black faces and curly hair
- They fought to protect the civilans even though they hated them
- Blacks joined the army to be like the rest of the world and have a future

Pendelton Act
- It created a fedreal civil service in which federal workers would be hired based on competitve exams rather than political influence
- Workers could be hired by an exam rather than thier political infulence
- Govn't jobs would be awarded

The Progressive Movement
- The political idea that tries to leave different polices
- It meant so many different things to different people, but it really didn't mean anything at all
- Socilaists foucsing on Industrial Revoultion
- The U.S life was very hard for Americans
- Promote fair competetion for people who are buying it

- He was the youngest president
- He was known as an emeny for corruption
- He was an outdoors man
- The people liked him, but the govn't didn't
- He tried to represent thoes who couldn't speak for themselves

Meat Inspection Act
- The "Jugle Book' was written to improve work places that delt with meat
- Diseases from dead animals were in the meat they sold
- The public never thought abbout what was in the meant , untill the book came out
- Food and drug act was passed at the same time
- It made govn't buissnesses protect the wealth and welfare for the people

Women Suffrage
- The 19th amendment gave them voting rights
- Voting rights were an issue
- It allowed them to vote for the president
- The south had women suffrage
- They believed that all women should be equal and have the right to vote just like the men
- Bringing women to vote might clean up the politics
- Women ended up voting similar to the men
