  • Pancake beetle!

    Pancake beetle!
This is a completely edible pancake. Anything you can draw, you could make with pancake batter. You could talk about different invertebrates in a classification lesson.
  • Treehouse

    Treehouse
See the bugs in the rafters? Do they see you?
  • See the bee by the railing?

See the bee by the railing?
Follow the bee, where is it going? Tell me a story...
  • Cousins

    Cousins
A charity run is a great way to stay fit and keep your mind active. The colored chalk creates an immediate visual art.
  • Thanks for the galley!

    Thanks for the galley!
I really like Leo and Diane Dillon's work, so I was particularly happy you let us keep the book we chose. I think it's pretty interesting to be able to show students (of all ages) the stages a book goes through to be published.
  • Flowers from my boys.

    Flowers from my boys.
Allowing art in the home certainly allows children to be more receptive of art in the classroom.
  • Grand Rapids Public Library

    Grand Rapids Public Library
A person can check out up to 100 books from the Grand Rapids Public Library. Literature should supplement every lesson and be abundant in every classroom. The public library offers great children's literacy programs with the integration of music, movement and the arts
  • My garden

    My garden
My boys are already eating the herbs and they will continue to eat from the garden all summer. I'll can enough tomatoes to make chili and lasagna all year. The flowers and vegetables wil look beautiful and will attract bees and butterflies.
  • The Amway Grand

    The Amway Grand
Grand Rapids has some beautiful architecture. A Social Studies or History class could use city landmarks as study tools.
  • Sand Art

    Sand Art
Sand art made at the Art Festival. You could use colored sand for a lot of activities in the classroom. You could talk about rainbows or layers of the earth.
  • Juggling Sticks

    Juggling Sticks
I've been practicing my juggling this semester. It's a good activity for hand-eye coordination and could be used as an ice breaker or brain break, if you have enough space.
  • Face Paint at the Festival of Arts

Face Paint at the Festival of Arts
A little face paint goes a long way in creating a character. Dressing up tends to lower inhibitions allowing creativity to flow.
  • Work space

    Work space
A great office and creative companions help make work more like fun.
  • Visual Arts

    Visual Arts
Create a pamphlet to share knowledge of a unit or content area.
  • Science Lesson Plans

    Science Lesson Plans
I have integrated the creative arts into every lesson plan. The students will use puppets to create a show integrating animal classification. The invertebrate lesson includes a very informative invertebrate song. The students will either draw an invertebrate or create a 3D example using any medium available. All the lessons allow for movement throughout the room to examine artifacts and work within pairs or groups.
  • Weebly!

    Weebly!
We learned specific strategies on how to integrate each art into every content area. We also learned about different fun, creative programs and websites to help create new art or learning tools.
