  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    The purpose of the act was to direct the trade between England and the colonies. It also prevented the colonies from sending certain products. This angered the colonists because merchants wanted to make their own goods and sell their products where they could get higher prices.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This act set the Appalachian Mountains as a temporary western border for the colonies. This act angered the colonists who owned shares in land company. It also took away land and gave the land to Britain
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act lowered the tax on imported molasses, they hoped this would convinve the colonists to pay the tax instead of smuggling. In return, the colonists believed these British actions violated their rights as citizens.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This law placed a tax on almost all printed material, this included newspapers, wills, and playing cards. All of the printed material had to have a stamp. The stamp would be applied after the tax was paid. In opposition, Parliament had interferred in the colonial affairs by taxing the colonists directly. It also taxed the colonists without their consent.The Sons of Liberty were created to protest against this act. They destroyed homes belonging to royal officials and they burned effigies.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    This law stated that Parliament had the right to tax and make decisions for the British colonies "in all cases." The act led to the repeal of the Stamp Act.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts applied taxes to only the imported goods, which were, glass, tea, & paper. In return the colonists believed that only their own representatives had the right to tax them. The colonists then began another boycott.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act allowed the company a virtual monopoly of the trade for tea in America. The colonial mechants did not like this, they stopped buying tea and called for yet another boycott.
  • Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)

    Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)
    These acts intended to punish the people of Massachusetts for their resistance to the British law. After this effect, colonies sent clothing & food to support Boston. Colonies said the laws violated their rights as an English citizen.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    This law set up a government for Quebec. It also gave Quebec the area west of the Appalachians and north of the Ohio River. This ignorede colonial claims to the area. The colonist expressed their feelings in their name for the new laws-the Intolerable Acts
