    2020, a history

My exhibit takes you through 2020, connecting the dots between the pandemic and our lives. It shows the impact the mitigation efforts have had on our lives and the healthcare system. It shows how the pandemic intertwined with the political events of the year and contributed to the change in presidency. It shows how the pandemic caused a mass interest in Tik Tok which greatly influenced the top music of the year and even the grammy awards.

2020 rewrote history, smashing records, changing the course of the world, so it's only fair to take a step back and look back through it.

This pandemic effected every single aspect of our lives this year, and this timeline will show you how. In a sense, this timeline is our reaction to the pandemic: our coping mechanisms, our political changes, our lifestyle changes. In 2020, for the first time a president was impeached twice, Black Lives Matter became the largest civil rights movement in history, Taylor Swift dropped two records in one year, professional sports had no fans, stock in zoom increased 425%.
  • Record Low Numbers at Mecca

    Record Low Numbers at Mecca
This picture depicts Mecca on March 6, 2020 during the beginning of the pandemic. It had record low attendee for the day.
Even Mecca was empty when the pandemic first came, emphasizing serious this was and how scared people were all of the world. If religious monuments can become empty and overtaken by COVID what can't? The fear and hopelessness resonated around the world. If you contrast this with other pictures of Mecca during other years it show the enormity of this picture.
  • March Statistics

I think I want to add these statistics blurbs to tie in the pop culture, walking you through 2020 aspect, but also the historical aspect. Like stats about the last time the house, senate and president flipped, or the last pandemic, or the relation to the 1918 flu pandemic, or the nurses PPE in 1918, etc.
  • LAX nearly empty in July

    LAX nearly empty in July
LAX is one of the largest airports in the United States, and it is notoriously busy and full of life. However, with COVID still infecting the masses, LAX looks like a ghost town.
  • LAX cont pt 1

This pandemic had been terrorizing the United States for 5 months in this photo, yet there is hardly any difference between an airport in March and an airport in July. There was a huge struggle in America to get a hold on the pandemic, which is very evident in this picture. New Zealand during this time, was in the nearing the last stages of reopening the country, yet America looks virtually the same.
  • LAX cont pt 2

The question this raises is why? What contributed to this inability to contain the pandemic? How did people's answer to this question contribute to the Presidency, House, and Senate turning blue in the elections in 2020? Did this play a roll in the historic second impeachment of former President Trump?

kids learning with masks and social distancing
This picture depicts elementary school age kids adapting to the COVID mitigation efforts by wearing masks to school and social distancing while doing activities.
It is extremely hard to get kids to do the tedious things in life, and in 2020, making sure your kid or your students are wearing a mask was added to the list. However, everyone of these kids has their mask on properly and is continuing to do their activities with spirit. Some are even dressed as superheroes to add some fun.
  • Kids cont.

Life was hard in 2020, yet the parents and teachers worked extremely hard to keep their kids and students entertained and safe.
