    In game 7 of the 2019 American League Championship Series, Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros hit a walk-off home run to send the Astros to the World Series. As he was running home, Altuve can be seen saying "Not the Shirt", indicating to his teammates not to tear his jersey off in the celebration. This brought up a lot of questions about why Altuve would say this. The reason he did, was because he had a buzzer under his jersey that told him what pitch was coming. https://youtu.be/GrLUD18_xKk

    On November 12th, 2019,Ken Rosenthal and Eric Drellich published an article on The Athletic titled "The Astros stole signs electronically in 2019 -- part of a much broader issue for Major League Baseball." This article was the first to break the news of the Houston Astros stealing signs in the 2017 World Series. This was the beginning of the end for the Astros, as the quickly became the most hated team in the league.

  • Statement from the Commissioner

    On January 13, 2020, the official statement of the Commissioner was released regarding this cheating scandal. This statement assessed the violations, culpabilities, and punishments that would be given to the Houston Astros organization. Following this statement, the Houston Astors manager AJ Hinch, as well as many other staff members would be fired due to this scandal. Many fans felt like the punishments given were not strong enough, as the wanted the Astros to have their title taken away.

    When the Astros reported to their Spring Training camp in 2020, they were greeted by an asterisk sign that had been placed next to their 2017 World Champions sign. This was the first time MLB fans had taken action when it comes to the Astros cheating scandal, and when the sign was removed by the team, it was quickly replaced by a new one.

Former Houston Astros player Evan Gattis went to twitter admitting many things, including that the Astros knew what pitch was coming during the 2017 World Series. This caused an uproar in the baseball community as the players usually kept quiet about this topic.
