Balfour Declaration
The Britishwanted to win the support of the Jews so they made a "National home for the Jews" and put them in Palestine but it was already inhabited with Arabs(becasue they were also prosmised the land). This started the confict between the Jewish and Arab people -
Holocaust
The National German Nazi group, led by a man named Adolf Hitler, gathered Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christians, Gypsies, and many more groups of people to all be killed to "make the world a better place". More than 12 million people were killed in these 4 years, all of which were innocent people. Most of the camps were either in Poland or Germany and prisoners were transported by train. -
UN Partition
Was a plan to make Jewish and Arab states independant and also to have a "Special International Regime for the City of Jerusalem" created by the United Nations. There was to be bounderies for each group, but the Arabs rejected the plan leaving violence to continue. -
Six Day War
Was a war between Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Syria fought over bounderies and why each country was stacking their troops on eachothers borders. Eventually Israel decided to go to war and launched an air bombing on Jordan beginning the Six Day War. In the end Israel won the war and gained some land. -
Intifada
Intifadas were Palistinian uprisings then wanted to end Israeli occupation. The stoned, shot, and even suicide bombed the troops and civilians. Israel reponded violently by destroying Palestinian buildings and attempted to eliminate the terrorist leaders. -
Yom Kippur War
This was founght by Israel, Egypt, Syria, and some smaller Arab states. It began because some of the Arab states lauinched a surprise attack on Israel on Yom Kippur. Egypt and Syria both attacked Israel then but were fended off and Israel even went into Syria on the offence. On October 22 the UN broke up the war and each Country blamed the others. -
Camp David Peace Accords
These were peace treaties signed by Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. Two of the treaties were signed in the White House. The treaties had to do with fighting, land, other political contreversies. -
Invasion of Lebanon
Began when Israel invaded southern Lebanon because of a recent attepted assassination of the Israeli Ambassador. Israel then wanted to sign a peace treaty with Lebanon hoping for 40 years of peace if they could get rid of Syrian influence in Lebanon.
