    In A.D. 73, the Roman Empire forced the Jews to leave Palestine. Jews scattered throughout the world (the “Diaspora”). The Arabs stayed in Palestine, later becoming Muslims.

    Jews were mistreated wherever they went. In Russia, people attacked Jews and burned their villages. Later, in Germany, 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. Jews began planning to return to Israel.

    Jews began returning to Israel in 1882, buying land and building villages. When Great Britain won WWI, they took control of Palestine and said they supported the Jews returning to their homeland.
