  • 1948 War

    1948 War
    Israel declared independence so Egypt, Jordan, Syrai, Lebanon, and Iraq all attacked Israel. Egypt gained the Gaza strip, Jordan got the West Bank plus East Jerusalem. Israel also gained land, though hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews became refugees.
  • Six Day War

    Six Day War
    Terrorism erupted thoughout when Egypt tried blocking Israel in an attempt to attack along with Jordan, Syria, and Iraq by moving their troops into Israel's borders. Though Israel attacked first and captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jorda, Golan Heights from Syria, the Gaza Strip and entire Sinai Peninsula from Egypt. Then even more Jews and Palestinians became refugees.

    Israeli governments build settlements to ensure saftey from large population attacks. Since some were built in the West Bank, it's hard to protect them becuase of population growth, which is trouble for Israeli military and Palestinians travel in the West Bank. Problem now is that Palestinians says that the settlements are built on land needed to make future Palenstine state and want to remove them, but Israeli government want to keep them there because they're used for saftey.
  • Attrition Battles

    Attrition Battles
    Israel took land from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria during 1967 War, though they were considering returning territory in exchange for peace and recongnization from other countries. However, Arab nations said they wanted nothing to do with Israel. Egypt began small attacks against Israel. PLO forces attacked Israeli civillians with airplane hijacking and terrorst attacks. They then fought with Jordanian forces, but failed and were evicted from the country.

    In 1973 Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on Yom Kippur and succeeded. However Israel was able to push back the attack and was convined to withdraw from territories it had trespassed. The attacked showed Israelis the importance of their buffer zones (settlements) becuase if Syrian troops didn't go through the West Bank, Golan Heights, and Sinai then the heartland of Israel could've been taken over, making it clear that Israel needed these settlements for protection and weren't going to move them.

    Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement
    In 1979, Egypt becomes the first Arab Nation to recognize and sign a peace treaty with Israel to set saftey of his people and economy. He needs them to feel safe in their own country so no more fighting and killing will happen. In return, Israel returned all the refugees that were captured (in 1967 war) back to Sinai. This became Israel's "land for peace" policy which stopped the state of war between the two.
  • The 1982 Lebanon War

    In 1982, PLO units attacked Israel so when Israel fired back at them in Lebanon, war starts. Israeli troops were able to move PLO leadership from Lebanon to Tunisia, but forced them to sink even deeper into Lebanese civil war. However they were able to withdraw from Lebanon while maintaining a buffer zone in their south region having peace for around 15 yrs, until terrorists attacked Southern Lebanaon which made for a 2nd Lebanon War in 2006 which made for more killing and more death
  • The First Intifada

    The First Intifada
    In 1987, Palestinians rebelled, with help by the PLO, over Israelis controlling the territories they were living in (Gaza Strip and West Bank). Palestinians attacked using different weapons supplied by the PLO and using suicide attacks causing many deaths of Palestinians and Israeli civilians at random. The Israeli army wasn't suited to fight people revolts because they only trained for wars. The fightings, death and killings went on until the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993.

    The Oslo Accords
    A set of aggrements starting in 1993 to set permanent peace. To do that, Israel had to recognize the PLO as the representative of the Palestine people, and withdraw its military in the Gaza Strip and part of Jericho, but still had the right to defent itself and its citizens. As for the PLO, they recognized Israel, declared no violence, and accepted peace with them. In return for peace & safety Israel would need to give up land, but both sides argue the other isn't meeting their obligations.

    Isarel and Jordan Sign a Peace Treaty
    Israel and Jordan sign a peace treaty in 1979 with the help of the United Staes and Jordan became the 2nd Arab country to recognize Israel and begin trading and connecting. Which meant no more wars, fighting, death, and terrorism now that the two are at good state with each other.
  • The Camp David Summit

    US President Bill Clinton got both leaders of Israel and Palestine to Camp David in July of 2000 in an attempted to get the leaders to form an agreement for peace. However Palestine's leader Yasser Afrat, refused to compromise to any ideas the Israeli Prime Minister said in favor of Palestine. For example Israel giving up a lot of land for Palestines to have a state. So the two sides never got the peace agreement signed making them stay in a state of war and Israel won't give up land.
  • The Second Intifada

    Israel's General Ariel Sharon visited a site holy to Jews, but also Muslims which angered the Palestinians saying it was only for provoction and with that, war started. Riots, suicide bombings, terrorism, unintentional victims all because of the failed peace process which caused all the misery and major bloodshed for both sides. All the murders and fighting of the 2nd Intifada ended in late 2004, or early 2005, though some say it never stopped.
  • Arab Peace Initiative is Proposed

    Arab Peace Initiative is Proposed
    Crown Prince of Saudia Arabia proposes peace with Israel in return for land taken away from 1967 war, recongnization of Palestine, and East Jerusalem as capital. This call for peace was viewed as a major breakthrough since before Saudia Arabia wanted nothing to do with Israel. Although Israel didn't agree with every demand, like giving up land gained from 1967 war, they were impressed of the determination for peace. In 2007 Israeli leaders met with Arab representatives to examine the proposal.

    Israel builds a barrier to protect civilions from all the terrorist attacks coming from the west bank, it's similar to the barrier built seperated the Gaza Strip from Israel. It helped decrease the suicide bombings coming from both sides but people argue the barrier has divided some Palestines from their land, area of work or study while others say the barrier can be taken down if peace comes back, but the lives lost from terrorism cannot come back. So there is a rivalry about the barriers.

    The Roadmap for Peace is Proposed
    It was a plan for peace for Isrelis and Palestinians involving 3 phrases made up by U.S, Russia, European Union, and United Nations with a goal for an independent Palestine state and safe Israel. However the plan never made it to the 2nd phase because in the 1st one, there was Palestine election of Hamas, who was a terrorist organization commited to destroying Israel, though Hamas was taken out of the government allowing Roadmap to progess.

    Israel Disengages from Gaza
    In 2005, Israel's prime minister moved Israelis living in Gaza Strip and added a barrier, doing a policy called Disengagment. Where Israel withdrew from Gaza for safety without Palestine's consent and moved military troops there instead to control the Palestine people. Many Palestines were angry saying that moving the people didn't require destroyal of the West Bank settlements (where some Palestines lived). Rockets fired / terrorism from Gaza into Israel became more common because of this.
  • Hamas is Elected

    In January of 2006, Hamas was voted over the PLO because people felt Hamas would succeed in his promise of killing the Jews and destroying Israel. He took full responsibility for the numerous acts of terrorism he commited. So Western nations stopped delivering / allowing Palestine to trade or import materials,and were suspended of aid to Palestine authority which included food, medicine, money. Suspensions would be lifted once Hamas recognized Israel, and accepted the agreements.
  • The 2006 Lebanon War

    Organization commited to destroying Israel forms called Hezbollah and is supported by Iraq and Syria. On jluy, 2006 they attack Israeli army, kill 8 soldiers, and kidnap 2 who are later murdered. At the same time, launched rockets into cities and towns commiting terrorism killing civilians lives and destroying property. Israel fights back and destroys Lebanon's tranportaion to prevent Hezbollah from resupplying. FIghting finally ends with UN Cease Fire Resolution 1701 on August 11, 2006.
  • The Battle of Gaza

    The Battle of Gaza
    PLO fatah and Hamas went and attacked at each other between because the PLO were mad that Hamas won the Palestian election. The fighting happened throuought Gaza and as a result Palestinian Authroity President, Mahmoud Abbas ended the Hamas government in the West Bank. Now Hamas controls Gaza and the Palestian Authority controls the West Bank so there is less fighting and bloodshed.

    Israel attacked Hamas's targets in Gaza for 3 months, between December 27, 2008 and January 18, 2009. It was to attempt stop rocket attacks, weapon smuggling, and terrorist acts on Southern Israel because so many deaths have occurred due to this. Also many deaths on Hamas's part because they based in urban areas where rocket attacks were fired killing other civilians along with destroying buildings and towns.

    After Hamas was elected, Israel and Egypt legally blocked goods shipped to Palestine making sure Hamas didn't try to smuggle in weapons. In May 2010, 6 ships set sail to break the blockage, but were told they could only dock at an Israeli port where they would be inspected. 1 ship attacked Israeli commandos but Israels fought back succeeded. Turkey ordered an apology from Israel for the lives lost but Israeli felt it was justified so didn't apologize, ending the allied relationship for the 2.
  • Arab Spring

    Before 2011 no Arab nation had a democratic government until protests happened with citizens in Arab states, against cruel governments and got the Tunisian President to leave and got an Egyptian President resigned. This became known as Arab Spring and it influenced so many more Arab nations / states like Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Moroccan, Oman, Syria, Yemen, and other countries. It had a huge impact and there's still continuous changes in Arab nations.
