    After World War II the United Nations decided to give the Arabs and Jews their own state. But in the process they break up Palestine. in 1948 right after they gained their state, they declared themselves independent. The day after the surrounding countries attacked Israel.

    Israel attacked the surrounding countries to defend themselves. They did this because they believed that they were going to be attacked so they took the upper hand and struck first.
  • Yom Kippur War

    Surrounding countries in an attempt to get back their stolen territories from Israel. Israel had to gain help from the United States, they didn't lose their territories. It lasted until the 26 of October.

    This was when the people began to protest against the Shahs rule. The Shah then fled Iran in 1979 because he couldn't control the people.

    This was a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt because Israel had returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt. That had 30 years of peace between them.

    What caused this war was border problems. They were upset about where the borders were and they started fighting. About 500,000 soldiers were dead on each side and they both used chemical warfare. But in 1988, after years of stalemate, they decided to cease fire.

    This was when the Palestinian youths were upset when Israel was building in the West Bank and Gaza, so they fought the Israeli troops. The second was when they fought Israeli troops but with Palestinian troops with them.

    After the Iran-Iraq war Iraq continued to build up their army, as they tried to find an excuse to invade Kuwait. Soon after Iraq tried to invade the UN stepped in to help and they freed Kuwait. The UN also demanded that Iraq get rid of the biological and chemical weapons and agree not to make nuclear weapons. But they failed when inspectors came to check if they had obeyed. This war ended about a year later.

    What sparked the war was when we were attacked on September 11, 2001. U.S officials went to Iraq to check iraq was hiding weapons and they didn't fully cooperate. So some U.S. officials were very convinced that they were hiding weapons so we invaded Iraq forcing Hussein out of power. In 2004 we worked to create a new democratic government there. In 2005 Iraqis voted for a multiple party election for the first time in 50 years. There's still lots of violence happening, and the war has yet to end.
