Kimmrich Dies

Break from fighting

When we first meet Paul, he and his other friends in his company have just returned from 2 weeks of fighting. Out of the original 150 men that left, only 80 men return.

Paul goes to visit Kimmrich

Dec 15, 1914

Paul and his company go to visit a classmate of Paul's named Kemmerich. Kemmerich has just had his leg amputated.

Christmas Truce

Both sides agree to spend Christmas in peace.

Sickness

Trench Living

They were stuck in trenches for days without food or water.

Talk about after the war

After returning from the bloody battle in the graveyard, the men have a talk about what they will do after the war.

Tanks were introduced and the british had the greatest number of casualties in Military History.

Paul Returns Home

After all the heartache Paul gets to return home.

Paul helps the Russians

Jan 11, 1917

After his leave is up, Paul returns back to the front. There he sees some Russians that have been taken captive. Paul is sent to guard the prisoners at night and he feels for them.

Paul and Kropp are injured

Both Paul and Kropp are wounded while fighting in a battle.

Recovery

Paul kills French Soldier

May 9, 1917

Paul volunteers to spy in No Man's Land. On his way back to his camp he gets lost, and caught in a bombardment. When an enemy French soldier jumps into the hole with him, Paul reacts quickly and stabs him.

Paul Gets killed

Jan 9, 1918

The tragedy of the whole story, when paul looses his life for his country.
Quote - “we are here to protect our fatherland. And the French are over there to protect their fatherland. Now who’s in theright?”

Pauls Last visit home

Apr 9, 1918

During a battle, Paul inhales poison gas and is given a fourteen day leave. His final trip home is a tough one.
Quote- " “We have lost all sense of other considerations, because they are artificial. Only the facts are real and important to us. And good boots are hard to come by.”

Detering and Kat are Killed

May 9, 1918

The war eventually gets to Detering and he tries to desert the army. Detering is caught and is court-martialed. Kat is wounded during a battle. Paul tries to carry him to safety however a piece of shrapnel falls from the sky and hits Kat in the head resulting in his immediate death.
Quote - “The belly of one is ripped open, the guts trail out. He becomes tangled in them and falls, then he stands up again.”
