Treaty of Tordesillas
Due to the conflict over the newly "discovered" land, Pope Alexander VI created the Treaty of Tordesillas. This treaty, between Spain and Portugal, created the Line of Demarcation which gave land west of the line to Spain while land east of the line went to Portugal. It is important to note that the Europeans were unaware of how large this newly discovered land really was. -
