  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    In this decision, it was argued that segregation of black children in the public school was unconstitutional because it violated the 14th Amendment' guarantee of "equal protection of laws." In May of 1954, the Supreme Court agreed with Marshall overturned the Plessy v Ferguson case. This case decided that 1) "separate facilities are inherently unequal" and 2) school segregation should end with "all deliberate speed.

  • The Klu Klux Klan

    The Klu Klux Klan
    After the start of the Civil Rights movement, there was another surge of the KKK seen. These were groups of christian white men who would go around in white "ghost" cloaks terrorizing blacks by bombing black schools and churches as well as acts of violence against white and black activists.
  • Rolling Stones

    This is an English rick band formed in 1962. The band consists of Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, and Ian Stewart. They had their first hit single in July of 1964.
  • Wallace and University of Alabama

    Wallace and University of Alabama
    Two African American students enrolled into UA and the governor of Alabama George Wallace didn't want them to enter. To prevent them from doing so he stood at the doorway and block them from entering. However the National Guard accompanied them and they were able to enter desegregating the school

  • Hippie Movement

    Hippie Movement
    Hippies became a movement during the Vietnam war. They protested the Vietnam war and advocated for peace and love" instead. They created their own social groups, listened to psychedelic rock, embraced the sexual revolution and used drugs such as marijuana, LSD, and "magic mushrooms" to explore other states of consciousness.

  • Black Panther Party

    Black Panther Party
    Dressed in black berets and black leather jackets, the Black Panthers organized armed citizen patrols of Oakland and other U.S. cities. At its peak in 1968, the Black Panther Party had roughly 2,000 members. The organization later declined as a result of internal tensions, deadly shootouts and FBI counterintelligence activities aimed at weakening the organization.

    This became a very famous and popular symbol in 1970s. It was used as a representation of a smiling person's face. This also brought about the quote "Have A Nice Day!" which became a very popular saying.

    This was the exchange of table tennis between the United States and China. They did this to try and ease tensions between the two countries and it was successful.This paved the way to a visit to Beijing by President Richard Nixon.

    This was a huge problem in Washington during the Nixon presidency. Member of an association called CREEP wanted Nixon re-elected so the broke into democratic headquarters. This crime was then linked back to Nixon.

    Hurricane Carmen
    This was the most intense tropical storm in 1974. This was a huge storm that originated in Africa stretching all the way to the western hemisphere to the United States. It was a category 4 storm and left 8 people dead. It also caused almost 163 million dollars in damage.

    This is American multinational technology company. This company designs and sells electronics, computer software, and online services.
  • AIDS

    AIDS
    The AIDS/HIV epidemic was becoming a huge problem for many as there was no cure for the disease. So, President Reagan decided that federal money would be used to help research of the disease.
