Alaska was purchased by the U.S. from Russia for $7.2 million. The purchase was made to avoid another war and extend the USA. The US extended and Alaska payed dividends with its natural resources (furs, fish, gold). Pan-Americanism
This idea sought support of US control over markets and control. At first was not successful because cheaper goods could be obtained from Europe in Latin America. It was important to imperialism because it the set the US up for future talks. -
Samoan crisis
US and German navies almost fought over control of Samoan islands. The scuffle was solved with a treaty that gave the US a valuable port and parts of what is now American Samoa. A war between American and the Spanish over arguments stemming from Cuba. The US gained Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines, which furthered the US imperialism movement across the world. Annexation of Hawaii
The US acquired Hawaii in the Spanish American war. Hawaii was later annexed. This move added Hawaii not just as a US territory, but as a US state. The addition of Hawaii allowed for more control and a point far west that was helpful towards imperialism. This policy was that China was open to the world for trade and all. This threatened the US hold in the Chinese economy. The US acted quickly and kept a hold ensuring imperialistic principles. -

The war between Russia and Japan fought over a lot of Asian land. The US stepped in as they feared for their control over portions of Asia.
