  • Mom read to me every night

    Mom read to me every night
    Every night before I went to bed, my mom would read me a short book. I still recognize some of these books when I see them, such as "Goodnight Moon", "Love You Forever", and "The Giving Tree".
  • Junie B Jones

    Junie B Jones
    On my 6th birthday, I got an entire collection of the Junie B. Jones chapter book series. I remember being so excited to read them all. They were like my first real chapter books.
  • Pen Pals

    In the 1st grade, we wrote to pen pals at another school. It really helped me learn to phrase my sentences correctly and helped with my spelling. Later in life, I actually ended up becoming friends with the girl I wrote to.
  • Lunch Box Notes

    Lunch Box Notes
    All throughout elementary school, my mom would pack my lunch and leave notes in the bag. They would have jokes or little messages on them. I would read them aloud to all my friends, who would read out any notes they got as well.
  • Learning to Love Reading

    In the 5th grade, we were placed in different skill based reading groups. In my group, we read Number the Stars, which jumpstarted my love for reading, especially about the holocaust. For the rest of the year, I read tons of books surrounding the holocaust.
  • Essay Writing

    In Seventh Grade, we started writing actual essays instead of short answers. I remember I wasn't very good at them for the first half of the year, but improved as the year progressed.
  • Covid Writing

    Durng Covid and quarantine, literally all of my teachers has us write about how the virus was affecting our lives. After writing like 6 essays on similar topics, I really improved on my writing techniques.
  • Mrs. Plumey

    Mrs. Plumey
    My 10th grade english teacher really influenced the way write. She taught me a lot of useful tips throughout the year. Toward the end of the year, when we had to write an essay on The Catcher in the Rye she told me that it was the best essay she had read all year, which significantly boosted my writing confidence.
