Sacajawea, Charbonneau (her husband), and her baby boy join Lewis and Clark on their voyage/expedition. -
May 28 1830
President Andrew Jackson signs the Indian removal act. The native Americans loose their land and move west fog the Mississippi River. -
1838
Only 2,000 of the Native Americans (Cherokees) have left their land. The ones who refused to leave are forced out by gun point by General Winfield Scott and 7,000 troops. Over 5,000 Cherokee died because of this. -
1851
Congress passed the Indian Appropriations Act, creating the Indian Reservation System. Native Americans are no longer allowed to leave their reservations without permission. -
1868
The US government and the Sioux sign the treaty of fort Laramie. This treaty makes it so that the black hills in South Dakota is Sioux and Arapaho territory. -
1874
Gold is delivered in the black hills of South Dakota. Therefore, US troops ignore the treaty of Fort Laramie and invite their territory. -
1907
Charles Curtis becomes the first Native American to become US senator -
1924
The Indian Citizenship Act is passed by congress. This granted citizenship to all of the native Americans born in the territorial limits of the country.
