After a heated battle, the outcome was a win to the Confederate army which shocked the Union army. They now found out and understood that they will not win the war easily. -

This big battle was won to the confederates by confederate general Robert E. Lee. He was a skilled general and only the rear-guard of the Union army stopped him from taking the whole Union army. -

This battle made Abraham Lincoln announce the Emancipation Proclamtion. -

The general of the Confederate army, General Lee wanted to launch an attack on the Union army and take control of the North. The reason why the Confederates wanted to take over Gettysburg was because there were many main roads coming out from the city. If you control Gettysburg, you control the roads. -

However, this gives heroism to the 54th Massachusetts. Thus, the Union army got more recruits. More African- Americans foined the fight and so, the Union army had a better chance of winning the war. -
