Annexation of Sudetenland
Hitler's target was Czechoslovakia. Most of the territory was german execept for the northern-most part, Sudetenland. Hlter really wanted it because most of the poulation was ethnically german. In 1938, Hitler demanded the annexation of Sudetenland. Hitler threathen war over the issue, and he and the allies exchanged the territory for peace in the war.

Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor was the most important navel base in America. Around 7 am, several Japanese fighter planes flew in and managed to destroy 20 american fleets including 8 battleships and more than 300 airplanes. Over 2,400 americans died that day and 1,000 more were wounded. After the attack, FDR, the US president, declared war on Japan.

The Philippines
Shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese launced another attack on the Philippines. This territory was controlled by the US. and our troops outnumbered the Japanese 3 to 2. however Japan used their top forces to gain the advantage in Luzon. Shortly after, they used their best soldiers to win the war aganist the Americans and Flipinos. This was one of worst defeats in US history.

Stalingrad
One of the bigggest and bloodiest battles during WWII occured in the city of Stalingrad, Russia.The war started when the Germans bombed the Volga River and continued into Stalingrad bombing most of the city. The Soviet army hid all over and ambushed most of the German forces.Russians trapped the Germans in the middle of the city where they would starve and freeze before the Germans finally surrendered.

Japanese Internment Camps
The US took a risk and forced all Japanese Americans to go to labor camps.They did this because they feared that the Japanese Americans might gather intel for the enemy. Shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack, over 1200 Japanese Americans were arrested and sent to camps all over the US. It ended in March 20th

Island-hopping
This method was used by the allies during the war in the Pacific. This means that the US defeated the islands around Japan that were poorly defended, gaining more territory in the Pacific.This created a two front war leading to a US victory in the war.

Battle of Midway
On June 4th, four Japanese aircraft carriers attacked and badly damaged the US base in Midway. Then the US attacked Japan's fleet and three of their carriers were deserted.The Hiryu, eventually sank the USS Yorktown. Early one morning, a US scout plane helped sink the Hiryu. Japan lost over 3,000 men, while the US lost just under 365 men. The war ended on June 7th. A US victory.

Gaudalcanal
This battle occured between the US and the Japanese. The Japanese were building an airfield on the island, when they were suprised by the US military, and fighting both land and sea occurred. Both sides fought with navel ships and they needed backup. The US outnumbered the Japanese troops, and the enemy was forced to evacuate, resulting in a victory for the allied troops.

D-Day
The allied forces (U.S.,Britain, France, and Canada) joined together to defeat Germany at the coast of Normandy, France. The allies attempted to decive the Germans to make them believe the attack was going to happen at Pas De Calias, north of Normandy. The first staged occured with the paratroppers, then they used bombing planes, and lastly the invasion on the beach, resulting in a victory for the allies.

Meeting at Yalta
A meeting took place at Yalta between three allies: Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin. The three allies (known as the "big three") discussed the defeat of Germany, the war in the Pacific, and the establishment of the United Nations.This lasted for 7 days.

Fall of Belin
The battle of Berlin (aka the Fall of Berlin) was one of the last battles in WWII. On April 21st, the Soviet Union enter Berlin, upon entrance, they fought in combat the Germans. The Soviets continued to fight in the air while the others fought on land. On May 2nd 1945, the war ends and the Germans surrender.

Death of Hitler
A group of French scientist looked at Hitler's teeth and proved that Hitler did in fact, die by cyanide. He also shot himself which leads us to belive that he may have done both. But there are still rumors of his escape.

Meeting at Potsdam
One of the last meetings held during WWII was in Potsdam. The "Big Three" discussed several topic which included the "unconditional surrender" from Japan, along wih the German economy, reparations, criminal punishments, and new land boundaries being put in place. This ended on August 2, 1945.

Hiroshima
An American B-29 bomber dropped the first ever atomic bomb in the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This bombed killed 80,000 civilans in a matter of seconds. The US dropped this bomb hoping to end the war, but the Japanese still didn't surrender.
