On may 7th 1944, US 8th Air Force launched 1500 bombers for the first time, in Berlin. The Canadian frigate Valleyfield was torpedoed and sunk southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland by German submarine U-548 with the loss of 129 of 167 crew. In the secret annexe Anne and her dad finally talk about the letter and they both cry. The Soviet 4th Ukrainian Front captured Sevastopol. Sevastopol is a city located in the southwestern region of the Crimean peninsula, Black sea.
The habitants of the Secret Annex learn that they will be restricted from doing anything during the lunch hour because Mrs. B, who used to be demonstrator for the business, wants to eat her box lunch in the office at 2pm every afternoon. Japanese destroyer Karukaya was sunk in the South China Sea by the American submarine Silversides. There is a little bit more humor in Anne’s gloomy life: The cat pees and misses the litter box. It leaks through the floor and down next to the potatoes. Anne is in hysterics. -
Operation Diadem
U.S. and British forces carried out Operation Diadem in Italy, breaking through German defenses in the Liri Valley.
