    Anne arrived at Prinsengracht and Miep brought her and her family to the "Secret Annex". The whole day she and her family unpacked boxes and filled up cupboards.

    In this entry, Anne talks about the "Secret Annex" and how it is the best hiding spot in Holland. Mr. Koophuis brought them a book calls "Young People's Animal." She also talks about her fear of someone hearing them.

    Andrey Vlasov, a Russian general, was captured by German forces for trying to lift the siege of Leningrad. During his time with the Nazis, he started collaborating with them, but he was also working with anti-Stalinist Russians
  • Dzyatlava massacre

    Dzyatlava massacre
    The Dzyatlava Massacre has many dates, but the second one is the one I'm gonna talk about. The second massacre lasted three days. During the liquidation of the Dzyatlava Ghetto, several thousands of Jews were murdered at the local Jewish cemetery. Around 3000 to 5000 Jews died in total (counting the first massacre).

    The Van Daan's arrived a day earlier because the German's were calling people up everywhere.

    German bomber shot down by the USAAF
    The first German warplane to get shot down by the USAAF was on the 14th of August. A German bomber got shot down by two US fighter pilots, off the coast of Reykjavík. There were six German airmen in the plane and they all died as the plane explodes and goes into the sea.

    The USAAF made its first air raid on occupied Europe, bombing railroad marshaling yards at Sotteville-lès-Rouen.
  • The Battle of the Tenaru

    The Battle of the Tenaru
    The Allied forces (mostly American) went to invade the island of Guadalcanal. That island was seized by the Japanese. In the end, the Japanese lost, only 15 injured Japanese soldiers were captured, and around 30 Japanse troops escaped. This showed the world that even if they were feared they weren't invincible.

    They hid the entrance to the "Secret Annex" because the authorities were looking for hidden bicycles.
  • Luftwaffe's first major bombing raid

    Luftwaffe's first major bombing raid
    Luftwaffe bombed the Soviet city of Stalingrad during the battle of Stalingrad in ww2. Stalingrad was bombed with over 1000 tons of high explosives and incendiaries. For the next two days, the Germans continued attacking the city. The result was having a dense volcano like smoke around.
