Sirens

1200 BCE

Odysseus and his men were traveling back to his home land.Odysseus and his men were passing through the island of sirens. Odyssey men had to tie odysseus up so he would get trapped by the sirens singing. Odyssey had to put beeswax into his men ears so they wouldn’t be able to hear the sirens sing.
Analysis: Odysseus learned that his men are loyal and hardworking.He learned that his men were loyal when they didn’t let him go when they passed by sirens. The theme is to always be loyal.

Circe

1200 BCE

Circe broght odyssey men in and drug them. She made them turn into pigs. Hermes tells odyssey to eat a herb to protect himself from Circe. Circe tries to slay him with an sword.
Analysis: odysseus men didn’t do what he told them. His men got distracted in see the food but since they didn’t pay attention they got turned into pigs. We learned that odysseus men don’t pay attention closely.

Scylla and Charybdis

1200 BCE

Odyssey and men passed the sirens. Scylla, the six headed women, swallows one salior on the ship. Charybdis, the enormous whirlpool, threatens to drownall of them that are on the ship.
Analysis: the theme would be that you should not give in. While odyssey and his men where passing by they didn’t give in.

Suitors

1200 BCE

The suitors all came to Penelope’s and odyssey’s house . They came because Penelope wanted someone because she was lonely. She was lonely because odysseus was gone for 20 years. All of the suitors were trying to impress her.
Analysis: The suitors were trying to impress penople to Mary her but she showed lot of loyalty. The theme would be to stay loyal.

Trojan war

1200 BCE

The Trojan war about Paris and menelaus. Paris kidnaped menelaus wife by tricking her. This made menelaus what to fight and go against Paris. Menelaus and his men made a horse and got in it. They then defeated Paris and his men.
Analysis: Odysseus didn’t have a real lesson here but he showed that we should be brave and fight for what’s ours. I’m this situation he fought for his wife back because she was kidnaped. He fought and he got her back.

Cyclops

1200 BCE

In the book of the odyssey cyclops is an enemy of odyssey. Cyclops with his other eye tried to kill odysseus. Odyssey then defeated cyclops himself. This makes odyssey the hero.
Analysis: the theme here would be that you shouldn’t let your enemies bring you down.

Lotus eaters

1200 BCE

When odysseus and his men were discovering and being adventurous they came upon the lotus eaters. He told his men to go and see if they were friendly but they never came back. He found his mean and dragged them back to the boat and locking them up. The lotus eaters were being to nice because the men forgot about odysseus mission because of the good food.
Analysis: the theme here would be that you should always be obedient and focus. And also that you should be very careful.

Aellous bag of wind

1200 BCE

Odyssey and his men where headed back to Ithaca. Odyssey’s men beloved that Aeolus had secretly given him a fortune of the gold and silver. The men had opened the bag and it stared a storm.
Analysis: The bag of wind shows how odyssey men lost trust in him. His men thought that he was hiding something from them at this time. The men went and found the bag of wind and opened it. They were shocked to find that it was wind. The theme of this is to always have trust.

Helios

1200 BCE

Helios had 7 cattle’s.Helios asked Zeus to punish odyssey because he killed Helios cattle. Odyssey was convinced by his men Eurylochus to eat the cattle when he was asleep. He woke up the all of the cattle killed. Odyssey made an promise not to do that but broke it.
Analysis: In the odyssey Zeus had to punish Odysseus because he went against a command. This shows that Odysseus had lost focus. The theme for this is to just follow the rules and don’t get distracted.
