The French and Indian War
The French and Indian war was fought between the British and the Americans and was also known as the Seven Years' War. This war not only gave Great Britain an enormous amount of territorial gains but also gave them an enormous amount of debt. This war ended with the Treaty Of Paris 1763. This was also a great cause of the Revolutionary war because of the many taxes put on the colonists in effort to pay off their dates. -
Proclamation Of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was passed on October 7th, 1763 by King George III. This proclamation prohibited any new territorial settlements west of the appalachian mountains. -
Treaty Of 1763
The Treaty Of Paris of 1763 is the treaty that officially ended the French and Indian war. This was between Great Britain and France. France gave up all their territory in the mainland North America.This also ended any foreign military threats to the British colonies. -
Committees Of Correspondence
The Committees of Correspondence is a group of people formed to communicate between one another within the 13 colonies.This was formed nearly a decade before the revolutionary war. They were considered a "shadow government" because they were basically speaking within themselves to see what they were gonna do about the British acts. -
The Stamp Act
The stamp act was passed in March 22, 1765. Britain passed this act because they wanted to help replenish their economy after the French and Indian war which threw them into a pit of debt. Some of the revenue from the Stamp act was used to maintain regiments of british soldiers to help keep peace within the colonies. The stamp act was used for colonists to be required to stamp legal documents, pamphlets, newspapers, etc. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a deadly riot between the colonists and the British soldiers on King St in 1770. It started off as a brawl between the two groups but then quickly escalated to be a bloody riot. Crispus attucks was one main person killed because he was an african man that died during this. This massacre made Anti-british movements spike in numbers. This main event ended in eight soldiers, one officer, and three civilians being tried for murder but then later being defended by Sam Adams. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was an act of rebellion by the colonists in response of the taxes on tea. One night, a group of colonists dressed as mohawk indians, boarded a ship importing tea into the harbor and threw all the cases of tea into the Boston harbor. The outcome of this rebellious stunt resulted in the Intolerable Acts. -
The Intolerable Acts
The intolerable acts of 1774 were punitive laws passed by the British government in retaliation of the Boston Tea Party. These "laws", if you will, were made to punish the colonists. The intolerable laws included the closing of the Boston harbor, quartering British troops, the quebec act, and the act of impartial administration of justice. -
Battle Of Bunker Hill
The battle of Bunker Hill was fought on June 17, 1775. This battle was supposed to be about the colonists delay a British attack but instead provoked one. This was a British victory in Boston, Massachusetts. -
The publication of "Common Sense"
"Common Sense" was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775-1776 which advocated the independence from Britain in the 13 colonies. He uses persuasive writing and argument in order to convince the people of the colonies to fight for independence. The publication of this book was a big factor in the revolution and was deemed successful. -
The Battle Of Lexington And Concord
The battle of Lexington and Concord took place on April of 1775 in Massachusetts bay colony. This battle resulted in many british soldiers being killed, wounded and missing. Although the colonists lost many Minutemen, it showed Britain and The King that unjust behavior wouldn't be tolerated in the colonies. This was considered a major military victory. -
Declaration Of Independence
The Declaration Of Independence was adopted by the continental congress in 1776. This important document stated the official separation between Great Britain and the americas. It tells that people have inalienable rights. These rights include Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness. -
Battle Of Valley Forge
The battle of valley forge was a major turning point of the war due to the conditions and circumstances. The brutal winter created a very tough environment for Washington's small army. The continental congress actually considered replacing washington thinking he was incompetent. They went of to have a victory against the British. -
Battle Of Saratoga
The battle of saratoga was fought in September 19 through October 17, 1777. This was also thought is a major turning point in the war because of the major Patriot victory. Not only did it prove to the public that they had potential to win but they also proved to potential allies, such as France, that they were worthy of winning. -
Battle of Cowpens
The battle of cowpens was a major patriot victory because of the many British casualties. This battle was fought in Cowpens, South Carolina. This battle stopped Lord Cornwallis' invasion into North Carolina and estimated British loses was 600 while Patriots lost only 75. -
Battle Of Yorktown
The battle of yorktown was fought in 1781 and was the biggest american victory because of their clever army tactics that led to the ultimate surrender of the British. They trapped the british by having a fleet of french naval ships on one side and 14,000 soldiers on the other. Basically, trapping them and moving them back led to the surrender of the British. -
Treaty Of Paris 1783
The treaty of Paris was signed by a British and an american representative that essentially ended the american revolutionary war. Not only did it recognize U.S. Independence but it also granted the americas significant western territory.
