  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    Andrew Jackson's career as an army leader and politician really started here. He successfully defended the port-city of New Orleans from a British Army with over three times the troops and better firearms, by building a wall and trench around the battlefield that this troops could fire out of. This is what considered the War of 1812 a stalemate rather than a loss.
  • Election of 1824 and Corrupt Bargain

    Election of 1824 and Corrupt Bargain
    Jackson ran for President in 1824, and ended with a very close loss. When the election tied and went to the House of Representatives, Henry Clay pursuaded the House to select John Quincy Adams, who then turned around and made Clay his secretary of state. This is known as the Corrupt Bargian.

    Jackson runs for President under his new party of the Democrats, winning by a landslide over the opposition, John Quincy Adams, running for the Whigs.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Previously, Georgia had begun to move out the indians in the state. The native indians of the continent refused, appealing to the court. The Chief Justice, John Marhsall, whom was the same judge of several other court cases under the rules of Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Quincy Adams, and even John Adams himself, ruled that Georgia had no right. But Jackson decided to let Georgia do it anyway, saying "He made his decision, now let him enforce it." Georgia then moved the indians.
  • Bank War

    In his second term, Jackson vowed to remove the national bank, eventually denying its charter and disbanding the bank altogether. This is known as the Bank War.

    Andrew Jackson's second term started with a bang. Congress passed their highest tariff yet, and South Carolina was furious. They threatened to secede if this Tariff of Abominations wasn't repealed. Jackson responded by lowering the tariff.
