  • Election of 1824

    Election of 1824
    Andrew Jackson was the winner of the electoral votes, followed by John Quincy Adams. Since both candidates didn't reach the 270 vote minimum, the tie was to be broken by the House Of Representatives. Henry Clay, speaker of House, was given the job to decided which candidate would be the better man for the job. Clay came up with a bribe which Adams agreed on, the bribe was that if Adams became president Clay would be the Secratary in State. This bargain is know better known as the Corrupt Bargain
  • Election of 1828

    Election of 1828
    Rematch between Adams and Jackson, which also featured no other major candidates. Jackson easily secured the electoral votes and won presidency. (7th president)
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    President Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act into law in 1830. The law forced Natives to move west of the Mississippi River (present day Oklahoma).
  • Worcester vs. Georgia

    Worcester vs. Georgia
    Georgia conducted a campaign to move the Cherokees who lived within Georgia. The Cherokees refused to move because they viewed themselves as a nation that could not have been moved without its consent. Southern states took the problem to the Supreme Court which then granted President Jackson the right to negotiate with Native Tribes.
  • Nullification Crisis

    Nullification Crisis
    A protective tariff was passed to protect the US industry, but since the south's economy depended on European goods, South Carolina chose to pass the Nullification Act on the protective tariff. If the Federal Government tried to collect the tariff, South Carolina threatened to secede from the United States.
  • Bank War

    Bank War
    President Jackson wanted to "kill" the Second Bank of the United States because he believed it gave to much power to the National Governement. Jackson vetoed the renewal of the bank's chatee and declared that no federal funds would be deposited in the bank. The charter did not become renewed and expired 1836. Jackson won the Bank War and the Second Bank of the United States was shut down.
