Election of 1824
The election's top canidates were Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams. Jackson won the popular vote and the electoral vote was a tie, so the House of Representatives got to decide the president. Adams won, but bribed Henry Clay to help him win and made him Secretary of State in return. This created the Spoils System. -

Nullification Crisis
The protective Tariff of 1828 raised prices of foreign exports. It was designed to make people want to buy American goods over Euorpean goods to help American businesses. This tariff hurt the South, who had an agriculture economy and depended on trade with Europe because they didn't have many railroad systems to trade and buy from the north. South Carolina declared this illegal and passed the Nullifcation Act and threatened to secede. -
Election of 1828
This election was a rematch of John Adams and Andrew Jackson. This time, Jackson won recieving four more electoral votes than the last election and got 139,222 more popular votes than Adams. Most of Jackson's support came from the South. -
Indian Removal Act
The Indian Removal Act moved Indians out of Georgia to the west to open up land for settlers and to find gold. Forcing the Native Americans out of their land was not a proud moment in American history. The "Trail of Tears" was one of the most famous trails they took, where about 4,000 Indians died. -
Worcester vs. Georgia
In this court case, Chief Justice John Marshall ruled Georgia had no right to interfere with the Cherokee. Jackson apposed this and challenged Marshall to enforce it. This raised the controversy about Andrew Jackson being a villan. -
Bank War
The National Bank's purpose was to regulate economic policies, and Andrew Jackson found it to be too powerful and unconstitutional. The president was Nicholas Biddle, who Jackson hated. The Bank was out to get Jackson who said, "The bank is trying to kill me. But I will kill it." The Bank ended when Jackson vetoed its charter in 1836.
