Jackson's Birth
Jackson was born in a backwoods region between North and South Carolina to Irish immigrant parents in 1767. He was essentially an orphan, all but one of his family members dying in the Revolutionary War. -
Jackson enlists in Revolutionary Army
Jackson was captured by the British when he was 13 years old to enlist in the war. Jackson has a scar on his hand from when he refused to shine the shoes of a British officer, resulting in the officer slashing him with his sword. He is the only one of the three brothers to survive the captivity and illnesses. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
In today's Alabama, hostile Creeks raided settlers, causing a war to break out. They interrupted the expansion of Jackson and an Indian tribe. General Andrew Jackson took victory. -
Battle of New Orleans
The British wanted to seize New Orleans to expand their territory after it became part of the US after the Louisiana purchase. However, General Andrew Jackson achieves the greatest victory in American history by winning the Battle of New Orleans. -
Election of 1824
Andrew Jackson runs for president for the first time but John Quincy Adams defeated him by gathering more electoral votes even though Jackson originally received more popular votes. -
Election of 1828
The election was between Adams and Jackson once again, but Jackson won this time. Several states transitioned to popular vote for president. Only South Carolina and Delaware had chosen a legislature to choose presidential electors. -
Indian Removal Act
Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act into law. The president became authorized to grant lands west of Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands. -
Nullification Crisis
The Nullification crisis was an issue between South Carolina and the federal government. The state of South Carolina was upset about the tariffs and taxes they had to pay. The people of SC thought the tariffs were unconstitutional. -
Worcester v. Georgia
Worcester v. Georgia was a landmark case of the Supreme Court. Worcester argued that Georgia had no right to extend their laws into the Cherokee lands. Worcester felt it was unconstitutional. -
Bank War
Jackson tried to destroy the second bank of the United States, reason being that he thought his opposition to the bank had won him national support and therefore leading to his election. Jackson hated the bank because he felt it favored the wealthy.
