Birth of Andrew Jackson
He was born in a log cabin, in the Waxhaws region between North Carolina and South Carolina. Jacksons father died three weeks before he was born. -
Jackson enlists in the Revolutionary War
Jackson, at thirteen joined the Continental Army as a courier, wo years later Andrew and his other brother Robert were taken prisoner for a few weeks in April 1781. While they were captives a British officer ordered them to clean his boots. The boys refused, the officer struck them with his sword and Andrew's hand was cut to the bone. -
Battle of New Orleans
Took place after Treaty of Ghent, after the war of 1812 was over. Gave Andrew Jackson recognition as a hero and proved the U.S could stand up for itself. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
Andrew Jackson was commander of the Tennessee militia,during this battle. he led his troops to victory against the Creek Indians at Horseshoe Bend, killing aroundv800 warriors and claiming 20 million acres of land in Georgia and Alabama. After this military success, Jackson was appointed major general. -
Election f 1824
Election of the Presidency, in which Andrew Jackson won peoples vote, but electoral college votes were equal between John Quincy Adams. So congress had to then choose between the two, but corruption on Henry Clay's part caused John Adams to be able to secure a place as president. -
Election of 1828
Was one of the dirtiest elections in history. Voters focused on the personel life of the canidates, and voted based on that. Andrew Jackson was elected in this election. -
Bank War
Name given after a big contravercy over the Second Bank of the United States. Jackson was agianst a national bank, due to personal reasons. He also believed that the bank was unconstitutional. So he vetoed the charter. -
Indian Removal Act
Act signed by President Andrew Jackson, forced Native Americans off of their lands, and out of their homes. Causing the Trail of Tears. -
Nullification Crisis
John C. Calhoun believed that the states rights superseded federal law. Do to a new high tariff, South Carolina declared the new tariff illegal. No states wanted to side with South Carolina because the President was against it. So South Carolina repealed the nullification act. -
Worcester v Georgia
Laws stating Non-Indians could not reside on indian lands were passed in congress. Worcestire was a man living in the Indian territory, and was asked to leave, but he refused, outraged at being forced to leave.The case was filed by Worcester who claimed that his family’s forced removal was a violation of his constitutional rights.
