site where I got this info fromThe election of 1824 was caled the corup barrgain. it was known as this because there was not enough electoral votes for any of the canidates to become elected so it was up to the house of representatives on who became president. Henry Calhoun knew he wasnt going to win because the popular votes were not very high for him. So he told John Quincy Adams if he made Henry calhoun he would put in a good word to the senate about him. (could not find exact date but it said it took place in the summer.) -

In georgia during the Western Expansion a gold mine was hit. this was still considered a Indian territory at the time. However when the people found out about the gold in georgia they rushed there and started mining to collect gold. This is how the first gold rush started.
