Jackson was married to Rachel while in his term. They got divorced then remarried when Andrew was elected for president. They did not have any of their own children but did adopt one of Rachel's nephews and named him Andrew Jr. -
Andrew Jackson is born
He was born in a backwoods settlement in the Carolinas. He had a sporadic education. He read about law for two years and became a dedicated lawyer in Tenessee. -
The darn British
Once Andrew and his brother were captured by the British and the officer ordered them to clean his boots. They refused and the officer cut Andrew with a sword down to the bone. Jackson went to the grave hating the british because of how they treated them. -
Career fact
Jackson actually started out as a teacher. He taught it briefly but didn't like it. He went to salisburg, North Carolina he studied law there for for seven years. -
Presidency
He was a major general in the war of 1812. He became a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans. Andrew was the first man from Tenessee to be elected to the House of Representatives. -
Elections
Jacsonians refer to Jackson's election as the stolen election. They say this because he did not have enough votes to win the election right away.So the final decision had to be made by the House of Representatives. His opponets were John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, and William H. Crawford. He ended up becoming president though. -
Ups and Downs
Jackson was against the charter of banks. He thoght congress had no right to make a bank anyways.Andrew used one of his vetoes to the bank. The banks congressional supports did not have enough votes to unvetoe. -
During Presidency
Two states were added to the U.S. Arkansas in 1836 and Michagen in 1837. Rodger Taney was appointed to the Supreme Court by Andrew. Rodger affected the union after Jackson retired. -
Retirement
Jackson's health was never good.Sometimes he thought he would not live long enough to finish his term as president. But he did he ended up retiring and returned home towards tenessee. -
Death
His health was deteriating badly.
