Rome rapidly grew in power over time. By 270 B.C. Rome had conquered the entire peninsula. The Roman soldiers were typically paid by being given a portion of the spoils of war, this gave them great motivation to defeat everybody they went up against. -

This is when Rome first began their battle against Carthage. Carthage ruled the Western Mediterranean, Spain, and North Africa. -

On thsi date, Rome ended their wars against Carthage. One of the main reasons that they came out on top was because of there strong navy. -

The plebeians would be like our lower class today. They were in a social class that was very hard for them to get out of so this is why the sought reform. -

At this point in time, Ceasar led his army into Gaul. Caesar was feared by other generals because he was a brilliant military leader and had a lot of success. -

The Zealots called for a revolt against Rome. Many believed that God would soon send a messiah, an anointed king, who would lead them to freedom from Rome. However due to many different ideas in Rome and a lack of stable Government, discontent turned into an open rebellion. -

The Visigoths defeated a Roman army at Adrianople. This defeat only added to the destruction, pain, and loss to Rome. This almost past the point of no return. -

Visigoth general Alaric overran Italy and sacked Rome itself. on top of that Attila the Hun invaded Europe, savagely destroying anyone in his path. Savage attack after savage attack like this eventually led to the fall of Rome.
