Minoan Civilization

3000 BCE

the Minoan civilization was a bronze age culture that developed around the year 3000. The culture began on a island called Crete which is a modern day greek island. The Minoans are regarded as the first civilization in Europe

The Bronze Age

2900 BCE

The Greek Bronze age began around 2900 and the minoans were a very early bronze age civilization. This is the period that they began to build tools and start agriculture. The minoans are known for their architecture which started at this time aswell

The Sumer-Elam War

2700 BCE

This war was fought between Sumer and Elam in 2700. The war was won By the Sumerians. This is the earliest war ever recorded.

Tyrants Culture

2200 BCE

This is when tyranny's began to start up in rome. Most major city states had tyrants lie corinth, athens and sicily. They were mostly descendants of usurpers and strong conquerors.

Trojan War

1200 BCE

this war was started because paris of troy took helen from her husband. The siege of Troy was said to have lasted a decade and the famous story of the trojan horse happened and greece was victorious. this was a famous story that lived on into modern culture and ancient greek history.

The dark ages

1050 BCE

This is a period of history where a great destruction happened. The greatest empire in the world the Myceneans were destroyed. Great cities and much land was left abandoned

Sparta is Founded

900 BCE

Sparta was a city state in greece founded around 900. They were rivals with athens and corinth. They were known for their military prowess and powerful soldiers

The Greek Alphabet

800 BCE

The Greek alphabet was developed during the iron age. It was inspired by the already established Phoenician Script. The language was carried west by traders and spread into what eventually became Latin.

The First Olympic Games

776 BCE

The first olympics was held in Olympia, Greece in the year 776. It was a spartan tradition that included athletics like sprinting. The original olympics was a tradition for about 200 ears but then it came back 1500 years later.

The Odyssey

700 BCE

An ancient story written by renowned poet Homer. This scripture was a story of heroism and was split into 24 books. It was a influential story that was revolutionary for future media and influental in greece.

Draconian Laws

These were a set of laws written by Draco. Draco was the First recorded legislator of athens. These laws are influential in todays laws and similar in some ways.

Democracy in Athens

508 BCE

Solon, Cleisthenes, and Ephialtes All were founders of democracy in greece. They split up power into ten groups based on where they lived. This was a new way to govern but was often interrupted at times of war.

The Persian War

490 BCE

This Was a war between the Archemedians and the persians that lasted 50 years and is one of the most famous wars ever. The tension of these two nations were high because 90 years earlier cyrus the great had conquered a Grecian city and had amassed a giant dynasty. Th way the war started was a rebellion on the persian empire and the rebels seeked military aide so they went to athens. After athens helped the rebels the Archemedians became completely involved in the war

Peloponnesian wars

431 BCE

This was a series of four wars that happened between Athens and Sparta. It was another famous war because of the naval battles. The war was even until persia supported sparta and the dominated Athens and brought a new culture to rome.

The Rise Of Macedonia

382 BCE

King Phillip the second became king 382 and even though he was far down in the line of succession he was a great king. He had studied military tactics under great generals and was good at using his natural resources. He Lead macedonia from a black sheep of greece to the conquering city.

Alexander The Great

356 BCE

He was a Ancient greek king who conquered lots of cities in his time. He took over as king at 20 and by 30 he had created one of the largest empires ever. The empire spanned from wes Greece all the way to India and he is known as one of the greatest leaders of all time

Second Macedonian War

200 BCE

The Second Macedonian War was fought between Macedon ruled by King Philip V, and Rome. The war ended in 197 and macedonia was invaded by Rome. this lead to the romans having more control over the Mediterranean and set up further invasions.

Achaean War

146 BCE

Rome and Achaea were allies in war only 50 years before this one but tensions rose quickly. Romans had a problem with the Achaeans religious ambitions. The war was very one sided and with the conquering a Achaea the romans had conquered all of mainland greece.

The Fall of Athens

86 BCE

Sula's army besieged rome in a very hard fought campaign. The army destroyed the land outside the walls then soon after sacked the port and looted everything. Then the harbor was burnt and after some time athens was surrendered due to lack of water.
