The Athenians won in the Battle of Marathon. on the island Slamis the Pausanias won the battle and led the Persian army out of Greece. -

Socrates
Socrates was arrested for corrupting young men and got blamed for the fall of Athens. He has his own method of asking questions called the Socratic Method. The Socratic Method is asking questions about the wrong doing of other people eventually leading to a realization. -

Sophocles started to write plays for the theatre. his plays started to be very popular and became a form of entertainment in Greece. -

The Peloponnesian War
Athens and Sparta begin a war. The war lasted 27 years. Pericles plan worked for the first year, Athens later surrenders which leads to Sparta conquering Athens. -

Boys had to go to the military at age seven and would spend 23 years there. the Spartans would usually have a small navy or none at all. They were isolated from the rest of the world because they were an inland city. -

Plato was a student of Socrates. He wrote dialogues and taught the ideal of goodness. -

Aristotle was a student of Plato. He started his own school called the Lyceum. he was known as The Philosopher. -

Alexander The Great
Alexander was one of Aristotle's students. he became king when he was 20. He conquered the Persians and India. Alexander died at the age of 33. -

They were held in Olympia. Started around 776 B.C. They were cancelled for the first year in over 1,000 years and not held again until 1896 in Athens.
