The Olympic Games
Held in Olympia. A messenger would go to all the city states with a peace treaty. Games were based on skills needed for war. Originally a festival for Zeus. Prize was a crown of olive leaves and honor. Only free men and woman could watch the Olympics. -

Heraclitus
Was one of the first philosophers. Said that life was always changing and it was impossible to step in the same river twice. -
494 BCE
Pericles
He helped strengthen Athens by leading armies in victorious campaigns, helped keep the member of the Delian League in line, and supervised the establishment of several Athenian colonies. -
492 BCE
The Persian Wars
The Persian wars, starting at 492 B.C lasting until 449 B.C, was a series of wars fought by the Greeks and Persians lasting almost half a century long. -
480 BCE
Battle of Thermopylae
About 75 miles northwest of Athens. Was a small passage way between the cliffs and the sea. The Greeks were badly outnumbered but they decided to fight anyway. Since the Greeks army was so small they could fight the whole troop on in the passage but the Persians could only have half of their troops. -

Socrates
Grew up in the Golden Age and fought in the Peloponnisan War. First to study ethics and focused on how people should behave. He would also go to the local market place and tried to make Athenians examine their lives. -
427 BCE
Plato
Founded The Academy in 387 B.C, got shut down because it did not teach Christianity. He also wrote all the things that his teacher Socrates did and said to people. -
384 BCE
Aristotle
Was a student of Plato. Believed that the purpose of life was to exercise ones abilities and virtues reasonably. Also, valued men above women and believed in slavery. -
356 BCE
Alexander the Great
One of Aristotle's students. Father got assassinated so he became king when he was 20. Was a great fighter with loyal troops but, by 323 he caught a fever and died. -
100 BCE
Library of Alexandria
Located in Egypt. When started by King Ptolemy it had 200,000 scrolls. His son continued the works and by 100 B.C said to have 700,000 scrolls.
