A Persian fleet carried 25,000 men across the Aegian Sea and landed on a plain called the Marathon. The athienians were waiting, and the Persians feld after combat. They lost more than 6,000 soldiers, while the Athenians lost less than 200. -

Xerxes assembled an enormous invasion to crush Athens. Some city states agreed to fight the Persians. Others let Xerxes destroy Athens and return home. 7,000 Greeks blocked the path for 3 days. A traitor informed the Persians about a secret path. -
