Plague of Athens
The Plague of Athens began in 431 BC and lasted 2 years. This war was between the Athens and Spartans. Pericles was the political leader of Athens and made a strategy. The strategy was relied on the navy. Citizens packed the city, and the military blocked all entries except the sea ports. The strategy was only succesful for only awhile. While the streets were crowed a sickness was spreading very fast. Although the Athens lost between a quarter and a third of the population in the plague. -

Battle of Marathon
The Battle of Marathon was just a few years after the Persian Wars. The Battle of Marathon was david againist Goliath. The Persian Empire wanted revenge on Greece so they decided to attack the Athens. The Persian military was so much better trained and prepared, they outnumbered the Athens 5 to 2. The Persian Empire wanted revenge on Greece. -

The First Olympic Games
The First Olympic Game held in 776 BC, it was almost 2 decades before Rome was colonized.This original event used to be a religios evnent that the Greeks did every 4 years. It took place near a 44 foot statue of a mythological god,Zeus. The games included contest like foot races, javelin, and wrestling. The winner of the games would recieve a olive wreath, and their name would be kept in the official record book. The winners wouldn't get rewarded with currency. -
Mycenaeans Settlement
The Mycenaeans settled mainland Greece around 1900 BC. Due to the dry land, the Mycenaeans couldn't grow grain. The Mycenaeans became traders to get the supplies they need. A large Navy traded overseas. The Mycenaeans became very wealthy traders. -

The Persian Wars started in 499 BC. The war had been going on for 20 years.The wars began when Greek colonies in the Asia Minor when they were conquered by the Persian Empire.The Greeks were used to having a democratic society they revolted againist the harsh empire.The Greeks were sent from the Athens to defend the colonist.The Persian Empire tried several times to invade and conquer the Greek city-states but they never were able to conquer Greece.Lastly the Persian empire defeated the Greeks
