    In the year 240 bc eratosthenes discovered that the sun was so far away that the rays were parallel. this provided measurements
  • 127 BCE

    ptolemy's theory

    In the year 127 Ptolemy discovered that all the planets revolved around the world, or so they thought. we later found that this was not true and that the planets revolve around the sun.
  • 1543

    Nicolaus copernicus discovery

    in 1543 Nicolaus discovered the heliocentric theory that says the sun is at rest near the center of the universe, and that the earth, spinning on its axis once daily, revolves annually around the sun. This led to advancement and accuracy in astronomical tools

    Tycho brahe

    In 1572 tycho became the most famous scientist in europe when he observed a supernova and proved that the universe was not unchanging. this showed that it was possible that the universe beyond the sun and planets were changing
  • johannes kepler

    In 1605 kepler described that planets move in elliptical orbits with the sun as a focus. we now know that we will always orbit the sun

    in 1665 he discoveered that all objects in the universe pulled on eachother due to gravity

    He discovered the theory of relativity in 1905 this claimed that gravity is a curving or warping of space. this led to the explanation of the origin of space
