    Archduke Ferdinand of Austria was shot to death by a Bosnian Serb nationalist during an official visit to the Bosnian capital. The assassination set of a rapid chain of events, as the people of Austria-Hungary quickly blamed the Serbian government for the attack.

    During the first world war as Germany waged underwater warfare against the United Kingdom. The sinking of the Cunard ocean liner RMS Lusitania occurred. A German U-boat shot a torpedo which made it sink killing 1,200 people and 94 children. It later sank off the southern coast of Ireland.

    These were the main battles of WWI. Argonne was a major part of the final Allied offensive of WWI. Chateau-Thierry was a war on May 31, 1918, which was the first action of American expeditionary forces. The Gallipoli cost the Allies 187,959 killed 161k Turks. The battle of Verdun was fought from Feb 21st to Dec 18th. It was the longest in the war.

    The treaty of Brest-Liovsk (breast peace in Russia) was a peace treaty. It was signed on March 3 1918 between the new Bloshevik goverment of Russia and the Central Powers. Russia showed withdraw after the October revolution of 1917.

    Treaty of Versailles was the primary treaty that was produced by the Paris peace conference at the end of world war. It was signed off on June 28, 1919, by allied and associated powers and also by the Germans in the halls of mirrors in the palace of Versailles.

    The league held their first meeting in Paris on January 16, 1920, Six day after, the treaty and the covenant of the league of nations came to force. The league has ir orgins in the Fourteen points speech of Presdent Woodrow Wilson, part of a presentation given in January 1918 outlining of his ideas.
