Ancient Prisons-30th Century BC
Built on slavery the prisoners were forced to fight in war and slave under their ruler. The prisoners were not held in prison cells like in the 20th century they were either tombs or chambers -
Medieval Prisons -476-1453AD
The roman Catholic church advised some of the worst under ground prisons known to the medieval times. If someone were to be cought with any kind of treason they would be beheaded right away. -
Colonel and Penal Prisons- 15th through 19th century
What would have been one of the world greatest crimes approximatley 12-21 million Africans were stolen and shipped to be beaten and used as slaves during this time.
They took them so they could be used as slaves on their island heavly fortified by castle walls. -
Sing Sing Prison- Ossining, new york 1831
Started out 10 feet above the high water mark, their vessel contained 1000 separate cells, dirty and damp 6 '7'' high, 3'3'' wide and 7' long.
Sing sing sent an estimated 614 people to the death chair. -
Devils Island
France turned a remote tropical island into a living hell. thousands die from tropical diseases, starvation and the waters around the island where infested with sharks. -
Alcatraz - 1934 -63
A 12' cyclone fence protected the prison as well aa armed guards placed through out the island. By the 1960's its started costing more per inmate than to keep the prison running so it was shut down. -
World war 2, post war hell holes 1939
As many as fifty million prisoners dies due to starvation torture and over worked. One man went blind due to a chemical exposition and they kept him at the same position evan though he was blinded. -
Killing feilds and torture chambers ,1975-79
They had banned all hospitles and churches so everybody could work. People who didnt work or disagreed with they way they where running this was either tortured or killed. -
September 1971 Prison Riots
400 inmates took control and seized 35 guards hostage. Within minutes 1300 inmates were ingulfed in chaos. -
Drapchi prison tibet mid 1960's
Within a few years it was crowded with more than 6000 inmates, forced to work 9 hour days with no food.
