    The Whiskey Rebellion was the 1st major domestic challenge for the US which started in Pennsylvania. Farmers were upset because Hamilton who was president at the time wanted a tax on whiskey.. He threatened to send in the troops if they didnt pay the tax.

Polk ran on a platform of taking control over the entire Oregon Territory and used the famous campaign slogan, "Fifty-four Forty or Fight!"Polk's plan was to claim and go to war over the entire territory for the United States.Through negotiations with the British after Polk's inauguration, the boundary between the U.S. and British Canada was established at 49° with the Treaty of Oregon in 1846.

    The Gadsen Purchase was an agreement between President Monroe and Mexico in which the United States agreed to pay Mexico $10 million for a 29,670 square mile portion of Mexico that later became part of Arizona and New Mexico. Gadsden’s Purchase provided the land necessary for a southern transcontinental railroad and attempted to resolve conflicts that lingered after the Mexican-American War.
